Transferring an ICC profile (.icm) from the Server to Your Workstation
This section details the process of downloading an icc profile created with the ColorMark+ software from your print server to your workstation. In order to do this, you will need the following:
- TCP/IP port on the server, configured with an IP address
- TCP/IP protocol on your workstation, also configured with an IP address
- ftp client software on your workstation
Step 1: Configure Your Print Server for TCP/IP Printing
To download the icc profile from your print server, you will have to add and configure a TCP/IP port on the server. If you already have a configured TCP/IP port on your server, you can skip to 'Configure Your Workstation for TCP/IP Connection to the Print Server,' below.
Add a TCP/IP port: from the System menu, select Add => Port, and select TCP/IP. Then, route this port to a printer on your print server (it does not matter which printer you select, unless you plan to use this port for actual printing later on). For more information on adding TCP/IP ports to your print server, refer to the System Control User Guide.
Configure a TCP/IP port: Right click on the newly added TCP/IP port, and select 'configure' from the popup menu. Then, click on the 'Settings' button. Next, enter the settings for the TCP/IP address (see sample dialog below). If your print server is on a network, you may need your system administrator to assign the values for this configuration dialog. If your print server is not attached to a TCP/IP network, you can use the values and configuration information spelled out here.

Step 2: Configure Your Workstation for TCP/IP Connection to the Print Server
Now, you need to configure your workstation for TCP/IP. If your workstation is already configured for TCP/IP, you may skip this step, and proceed to 'Launch an FTP Client on Your Workstation and Connect to the Print Server,' below.
As with the configuration of your print server on your network, you may need the assistance of your system administrator for the TCP/IP settings for your workstation. However, if your workstation is not attached to a TCP/IP network, you can use the settings located here.
Step 3: Launch an FTP Client on Your Workstation and Connect to the Print Server
Launch the FTP Client: To actually download the icc profile from the print server, you will need to launch an ftp client (you will be transferring the file using FTP, the standard for file transfers over the Internet). If you do not have FTP client software on your workstation, you will need to download and install one. For your convenience, there are links below to help you find and download an ftp client. Alternatively, you can search your favorite download site for an ftp client, using the search term, 'ftp.'

Windows

Connect to the Print Server: In your FTP client software, open a connection to the print server by entering the TCP/IP address assigned to the print server in 'Configure Your Workstation for TCP/IP Connection to the Print Server,' above, into the 'address,' 'location,' or 'connect to...' field (the various ftp clients will label this field differently). Use 'anonymous' for the username and 'cmpro' for the password (it really doesn't matter what you use for the password, just do not leave the field blank). You are now connected to the server and ready to download the icc profile to your workstation.
Step 4: Download the Profile
Once you have connected to the server, you will see a 'ColorMark' folder. Inside this folder you will see at least two additional folders: 1) one folder for every attached printer on the print server, and 2) a mac_icc folder. For more information on the 'mac_icc' folder, see 'Special Note to MacOS Users,' below. Open the folder for the printer for which you wish to download the icc proflie, select the profile (.icm file), and download the file to your workstation. You do not need to download the .cx transform associated with the .icm file. Once the download is complete, you are ready to install and use the profile in your operating system, which is covered in the next section of this tutorial.
Special Note to MacOS Users: For ColorSync to utilize the newly downloaded icc profile, you will need to convert the file to a format that ColorSync can use, and install it into the proper place in the System Folder. Inside the 'mac_icc' folder (in the ColorMark folder on the server) is an application that automatically converts the file and installs it for you. You will need to download the file 'macdrop.hqx' from the 'mac_icc' folder to your Macintosh, and decode the binhex archive with Stuffit Expander. This file will decode to a folder called 'Profile Fixer.' Inside the newly created 'Profile Fixer' folder is the application program (Prepare ICC Profile) that will do the .icm file conversions for you. Simply drag the newly downloaded icc profile (.icm file) on top of the Prepare ICC Profile program icon--the program will launch and automatically covert the file to the proper format and install it into the System Folder. The next section of this tutorial includes more detailed information on the usage of this program.
